We like to think of Legacy, the newest restaurant in our Giovanni’s family of brands, as alchemy’s sassy, high-brow cousin. Executive Chef Al Castrogiovanni could not be happier to have introduced Legacy to the Rockford community in fall of 2018.

“I am so lucky to be in the family I’m in, in the city I live in, surrounded by the talented people I work with and the wonderful people we serve every day,” he said. “I’ve been wanting to stretch out a little bit as a chef for some time now. In doing that, I also saw an opportunity to do something to honor my Dad and my Mom and my grandfather and uncles. They laid the groundwork for everything we’ve accomplished here. Without their hard work, the risks they’ve taken and the commitment they’ve made to our community, we would not have achieved half the success we have. I want to keep doing everything I can to bring new culinary adventures to our customers. Legacy is an expression of just that.”

Castrogiovanni and his culinary team rose to the challenge to stretch their wings in creating the Legacy experience. From the hand-crafted, custom cocktail list to a Wine Spectator-worthy wine list, to a mouth-watering menu that is simply unparalleled in northern Illinois, everything about Legacy is designed to challenge, delight and satisfy.

“I’ll go out on a limb and say that our goal is for Legacy to make the Wine Spectator list of award-winning restaurants inside the first three years,” said Chef Castrogiovanni. “The wine list is designed to allow you to travel the world in our four walls. We’ve put an emphasis on not replicating anything that already exists in northern Illinois.”
